Subject: Lesser Black-backed Gull, Canyon Co., ID

First of state record - Lesser Black-backed Gull
This bird has been seen, on each of the last three (3) days, (Th,Fr &
Sa). It is at the Canyon County, ID Pickle Butte Landfill. It has
been videotaped and verified by at least 8 knowlegeable birders. Initial
sighting by John Gatchet.

I am not very adept at giving descriptions so will leave the
"official"
description to others more knowledgeable than I. However, the gull is
the size of the California Gulls, with which it was associating. The
mantle is much darker than that of the Calif. The legs and feet are
yellow, the bill is yellow with a orange red spot on the lower
mandible. There is a dark horizontal line on the upper mandible
between
the gony patch and the nostril. The eye is yellowish, and the wing
tips
show 3-4 white spots (windows) when folded over the tail.

P.S. I tried to post this to and via Don Baccus new website, but could
not, seeing how Lesser Black-backed Gull is not included in the list of
birds and it doesn't allow for any other input.
