Columbia Estuary Report - 11/14/1999

The weather has, until today, been thoroughly miserable.
BUFFLEHEAD numbers have multiplied rapidly over the last two
weeks. BOANPARTE'S GULLS can be found regularly in Youngs Bay.
The "Dairy Queen" BALD EAGLES have returned to their haunts
along W Marine drive across from the high School in Astoria.

Todd Thornton found a LAPLAND LONGSPUR on the Necanicum Estuary
on Saturday and there are still a few around SJCR.

A LESSER YELLOWLEGS is still hangign out with GREATER YELLOWLEGS
on the Lewis and Clark River near the mitigation bank.

Michelle and I took a walk at the mitigation bank this
morning to inaugurate the first of a winter long census effort.
A very cooperative SWAMP SPARROW and 3 LINCOLN SPARROWS were
among the 20 species seen.

Mike Patterson The common view of science is that it is a sort of machine
Astoria, OR for increasing the race's store of dependable facts.
mpatters at oregonvos.net It is that only in part; in even larger part
it is a machine for upsetting undependable facts.
