This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Nov 12 (1999). This hotline,
sponsored by Palouse Audubon, is updated every Friday evening.

A PACIFIC LOON was on Lake Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai Co, ID on Nov 5
according to Stephen Lindsay. The bird was along ID 97 where Wolf Lodge Bay
becomes Beauty Bay on the east shore of the lake. Take I-90 east from Coeur
d'Alene to exit 22 and head south on ID 97. Look for the bird between
mileposts 94 and 95. ID DeLorme 60, B-2. See also the Birders Guide to
Idaho p 50-52.

At Mann Lake, east of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co, ID, Brian Jamison reports a
DUNLIN and 3 BONAPARTE'S GULLS on Nov 6. On Nov 9, Brian saw 4 ROSS'S GEESE
in a large flock of SNOW GEESE, 2 late GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and an AMERICAN
TREE SPARROW. To get to Mann Lake from the north end of Lewiston, take US
12 across the Clearwater River and immediately after crossing the bridge,
take the first left toward East Lewiston. Turn left onto East Main Street
and follow it several blocks to the blinking yellow light and Lapwai (aka
Lindsey Creek) Road. Turn right onto Lapwai and at the "Y" stay right on
Lindsey Creek. Follow Lindsey until it deadends at Grelle. Turn left on
Grelle, and just after Grelle makes a 20 mph right turn, turn left on
Powers Ave and follow it 1.3 miles to the dead end and the reservoir. ID
DeLorme 54, A-1.

A GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE has been near Mission, Umatilla Co, OR for a couple
of weeks. The bird was found by Aaron Skirvan and has now been seen by
many. On Nov 12 the bird was near the grade school in Mission according to
Mike and MerryLynn Denny. To get there, take I-84 to exit 216. Head north
toward Mission, then turn east toward the school, presumably on the main
drag. Yesterday, Craig Corder and Judy Stevens saw it by the tribal police
station. OR DeLorme 86, B-2.

In western Walla Walla Co, WA, the RUSTY BLACKBIRD seen on Nov 5 by Mike
and MerryLynn Denny was seen again today, Nov 12, by Craig Corder and Judy
Stevens. Last week the bird was at the Iowa Beef settling ponds. To get
there, head north from the jct of US 12 and US 730 about 3 miles to Iowa
Dodd Beef Road. Turn east and go past the slaughter house, taking the first
main road right, which is the old railbed to the ponds. Today, the bird was
in a large flock of Brewer's Blackbirds, east of the main feed lots, near
the hunter check-in signs. WA DeLorme 40, CD-1.

A male OLDSQUAW was reported from Grand Coulee, Grant Co, WA on Nov 7 by
Jerry and Sandy Converse. It was on a small lake in front of their house.
