Subject: low numbers of birds at feeders this fall?

We are actually getting greater numbers as usual at the feeders: large numbers of juncos, house sparrows and house finches, but also several downy woodpeckers and rb nuthatches, a few flocks of black-capped and chestnut-backed chickadees, a song sparrow and 3 spotted towhees. Just this morning in the yard, there was a flock of about 50 pine siskins, around 10 golden-crowned kinglets, 2 ruby-crowned and a hutton's vireo.

I imagine its related to the springing up of housing developments on every side of us. There used to be 30 acres of forest across the street, and now its a hominid habitat. The birds probably are just being squeezed onto our greenbelt.

I've heard through the grapevine that many owners of Wild Birds Unlimited
Stores in the I-5 corridor have been told by their customers that bird
feeder action is significantly down this fall. ...Anyone know what is going
on?
