Dear tweeters,
I have twice seen red tails roll up and catch crows engaged in mobbing them,
in the Rainier Valley and above the Sears building in the industrial district.
It was kind of surprising, in light of the many instances when red tails,
esp. young birds, are obviously quite intimidated by mobbing. I also saw
something I've never been able to explain in my own mind, a Coopers Hawk over
the Lander st. Post office riding a thermal up with a group of 20 to 40 crows
staying far away (more than 100 feet) above her in the same thermal, as though
very seriously afraid! Sure haven't seen many reds this year.
