I'm not an expert so I won't give an opinion for or
against feeding peanut butter...I've put it out in
cones in the past but don't anymore.

However, can't help jumping in here to remind folks
that, if you subscribe to feeding peanut butter
because you care about your little bird buddies,
PLEASE go to somewhere like PCC (Puget Consumers Coop)
or so forth where you can grind the peanuts yourself
into your container and make sure it is not
contaminated with hydrogenated anything, corn syrup,
etc. (Actually this is good advice for those of you
who eat it yourself, also). You'll at least be
eliminating a definite bad-for-them thing.

It is now known that the hydrogenating of oils/fats
(creates trans fat) is what causes them to damage the
interior of the veins/arteries and that means
margarine, or any hydrogenated or
partially-hydrogenated fat is far unhealthier in the
long run than even the "dreaded" saturated fats like
butter or coconut oil. Saturated fat/cholesterol
won't do you the harm of sticking to the insides of
your arteries if the arteries haven't been previously
damaged by the trans fats. I can't believe they are
any better for a bird than they are for humans, so
keep that in mind when you are deciding what brand to
buy. I personally would only get something like Adams
which supposedly contains only peanuts, if I couldn't
find a "grind-it-yourself" supply.

An older relative had a triple bypass 15 years ago.
Most folks who have that done are back in for a
re-plumb after 5-6 years and his doctors are amazed at
how healthy he's kept his circulatory system since he
started reading up on what was needed, to avoid future
problems--and that includes avoiding trans fat like
the plague. I believe in the information I get from
this source because it is obviously working--he hasn't
had to go back in!

We won't even get into the peanut mold/fungus issue...
