Hi Tweets,

While I was out slogging about at the Kent Ponds/GRNRA my mother who lives
in Bakersfield, CA enjoyed a rare treat right in her backyard.

Hanging out in the trees and powerlines was a large flock of ROSE RING
PARAKEETS! These East Indian natives are descendents of escaped cage birds
and have become "naturalized" in parts of California. Nesting colonies are
observed in parks in and around Bakersfield. These parakeets are
successful, and their success causes concern for biologists. They are
concerned the parakeets might displace native cavity nesting species.

But, oh they are so flashy and beautiful!
