Hi Tweeters and greetings from Naniamo,
I thought that I would let you know of the last few days of the
very exciting birding on the Island.
On the 13th of Nov. Marilynne and I went to the Little Qualicum River
and discovered a number of birds. We counted a total of sixty Bald
Eagles, 1000's of Black Scoters, lots of White winged Scoters, Common
and Pacific Loon's, Western and Horned Grebe's, Wigeon, the highlite had
to be the number of Eagles and Black Scoters.
On Sunday the 14 of Nov. We went with the Sunday Bird Walk to a large
hill off Rock City Road in Nanaimo in search of Anna's Hummingbirds,
didn't find any but did see a Harris's Sparrow, and a Fox Sparrow. It
was very foggy so didn't seee much.
On the 16th of Nov. We went to Duncan and the Cowichan Bay we found a
flock of twenty Wood Duck's ,a large flock of Purple Finch, and several
Golden Crowned Sparrows at Cowichan Bay. At Duncan we had two long
look's at two Cattle Egret's they are white as white can be with yellow
bills and greenish legs I found them to be really exciting.
On the 20th of Nov. we went to the Nanaimo River Estuary where we found
and saw a Short Eared Owl, A Northern Shrike, a Tree Sparrow, Cooper's
Hawk, and a Redtailed Hawk.
On the 21st of November we went with the Sunday Bird Walk to the Little
Qualicun River Esatuary the list is Long....
