Hello Tweets,

Today my mother and I birded in Pierce Co., mainly in search of winter
gulls, where we started at Am.Lake for the LITTLE GULL, with NO luck, with
only 8 BONEAPARTE'S GULLS, and 34 CALIFORNIA GULLS at 11am. We checked the
Puyallup River mouth and Gog-le-hi-te Wetland areas, where a single 1st
winter GLAUCOUS GULL was present roosting on a roof top, north of Lincoln
Ave., and later seen at the Gog-le-hi-te Wetland at 2:30pm. The highlight
of the day came at 1:20pm, when we observed the adult winter SLATY-BACKED
GULL from the Gog-le-hi-te Wetland(north trail)along Lincoln Ave. standing
briefly on a rooftop on the intersection of Marc and Lincoln Ave, then flew
NW towards the river, and could NOT be relocated. Up to 6 adult WESTERN
GULLS were also present in the general vicinty, as were 1 HERRING GULL and
380+ THAYER'S GULLS that were mostly present at the rendering plant, just
east of the wetland. 25 DUNLIN were also noted along the Puyallup River,
roosting on exposed rocks along theshores, during outgoing low tide.

Good Birding,

Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
