We spent Thursday-Saturday at Lake Chelan.

We are buying a vacation place at Chelan and would love more information on
local birding spots--also, would it be worthwhile to put up bluebird boxes??

Chelan Butte, Friday, 11-26
Gloriously sunny after a rainy turkey day. Sparklin hoar frost on the dead
grasses and a light dusting of snow on top. 3 bald eagles, coopers hawk,
raven, cassins finches, redtail, harrier, and a mystery raptor, probably a
rough-legged. Oh yes, and about noon, a giant white-wing hang glider took
off from the chilly summit.

There were huges rafts of waterfowl on the lake. One flock just east of the
Lady of the Lake landing included:
Common Loon
N. Shovelers
G & L Scaups
Canvasbacks
Redheads
Gadwall
Mallard
Ring-neck ducks
Common Merganser
Common Goldeneye
Buffleheads
Canada Geese
Grebe (unable to identify)
Hooded Mergansers (on smaller Roses Lake)

Other land birds near the State Park included Ferruginous Hawk, White-headed
woodpecker, Flicker, stellar's jay, juncos, and everywhere, CA quail galore
(figuring it was safer in town than out in the brush where the hunters were
out in force)
