In response to Peter Sullins' question about the location of Tagish
Narrows, I can offer the following map:

The Ivory Gull was near the Tagish bridge which spans the "6 Mile River".
If you follow the Klondike Highway south from Carcross you arrive at
Skagway, Alaska. The Alaska ferry system runs from Skagway south to Prince
Rupert, BC and on to Seattle, WA. Its a wonderful trip which takes about
3-4 days with stops at lots of interesting locations. The scenery and
sealife (whales, dolphins, sea lions, sea birds) are sensational.

Now, if you do make the trip to Skagway, why not drive north to the Yukon
and on to Alaska. In 1998, we made a lovely trip from Whitehorse down to
Homer, Alaska which is home to lots of interesting species such as Horned
and Tufted Puffin, Red-faced Cormorant, Aleutian Tern, and Kittlitz's
Murrelet.
