This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Nov 26 (1999). This hotline,

Much of the good stuff was reported from Walla Walla Co WA. . . I'm
starting in Walla Walla and going clockwise. . . According to the Denny's,
as of Nov 25 there are still 2 adult WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS residing at
Madame Dorianne Park just north of the jct of US 12 and US 730. The Dennys
toss bird seed on the old road south of the bathroom. Use your car as a
blind and the birds hop out and feed. WA DeLorme 40, D-1. Heading north,
On Nov 20, Andy Stepniewski among others found 3 EURASIAN WIGEONS near the
Iowa Dodd Beef Slaughter House. To get to the birds, go about 3 miles north
of the jct of US 12 and US 730 along US 12 and head east on Iowa Dodd Road.
Just past the slaughter house, take the first right on the old rail bed to
the ponds that are loaded with waterfowl. On Nov 25, Mike and MerryLynn
Denny found 2 male RUSTY BLACKBIRDS about 0.75 mile past the slaughter
house in the company of a huge flock of assorted blackbirds.

A SWAMP SPARROW was at the McNary NWR HQ on Nov 20, according to Andy and
the Denny's. The refuge is just southeast of Pasco off US 12. WA DeLorme
40, C-1.

A MEW GULL and 5 GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS were reported by Andy at Ice Harbor
Dam on the Snake River between Walla Walla Co and Franklin Co. Access the
dam from WA 124. WA DeLorme 40, BC-1.5.

A flock of 7 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY FINCHES were about 8 miles northwest of
Walla Walla on Nov 21 according to the Denny's. The birds were near the jct
of Luckenbill and Sudburry roads in the cut bank. WA DeLorme 40-41, C right
on the crease.

Other locales. . .

An AMERICAN TREE SPARROW was at the west end of the I-90 bridge over the
Columbia at Vantage, Kittitas Co., WA on Nov 24 according to the Denny's.
The bird was in the brush near the public boat launch. WA DeLorme 52, A-1.

The Denny's also report a flock of 67 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY FINCHES near Little
Goose Dam on the Snake River on the Whitman Co, Columbia Co, WA line on Nov
25. The birds are easily seen after about 2:30 pm when they go to roost in
the Cliff Swallow nests on the basalt cliffs east of Texas Rapids Park. WA
DeLorme 55, D-8.

Carl Mickelsen reports a BLUE JAY near his home for the past month east of
Viola, Latah Co., ID.

In the past 2 weeks, COMMON REDPOLLS have been reported in flocks ranging
in size from 1 to 150 birds. Locations include: northern Richland, Benton
Co., WA; Franklin Co., WA; Moscow and Moscow Mountain, Latah Co., ID;
Stevens Co., WA; Spokane Co., WA; Pend Oreille Co., WA; Ritzville, Adams
Co., WA; Moses Lake, Grant Co., WA; Starbuck, Columbia Co., WA. Look for
them in hardwoods, especially birches and alders.
