Thanks to all who responded to my request for a bird ID. All who wrote
identified it as a Scrub Jay. In looking at my No. American book for the SJ
it indicates they have a "dusky face mask" which I saw, but because it was
so subtle I didn't think it was important. So, a Scrub Jay it was.

"If you want to see a Scrub Jay to add to your Washington State list make a
quick stop at the McDonalds just off of the freeway in Kelso on your next
trip south. There is a regular population of french fry and burger eating
scrub jays that frequent the parking lot and are often purched on overhead
wires there."

Interesting. My apartment in 'downtown' Kent is a block away from a side by
side McDonald's and Burger King (how lucky can you get)! Michelle mentioned
one at a tavern in Littlerock. There are those in my neighborhood too.
Perhaps that's the combination they are looking for.

This morning I saw a male Belted Kingfisher sitting on a telephone wire over
the middle of the Green River, about a block south of the new 196th South
bridge over the Green. Wednesday I saw a female in the same mode, on a wire
over the Green, adjacent to the Kent Ponds.
