This morning I saw 9 Ravens flying, perching and.......playing..........over
my property here in Littlerock. Five of the ravens were literally playing tag
through the firs lining the gravel pit behind my house. They were zooming
through and around the treetops, while the other birds either perched in the
trees watching or flew in circles watching the game. The game appeared to
have started spontaneously and finally concluded only when the four
non-participants finally got up and flew northeast towards the Capitol
Forest. Even then the five players appeared reluctant to break off their
game, finally flying off in a group after the four when one of the birds (no
I have no idea which one) called.
This is the largest group of Raven's I've ever seen, and to have them right
here in my backyard is a real treat. There's a pair that nests in the
vicinity every year, but to see nine at once was a real treat.
