Hello Tweeters,
I intended to go in to Mason Co.out of Belfair on Elfendahl Pass, when i
discovert the roads are closed to car travel. I decide instead going to
Sqare Lake in Kisap Co. to find the last Dragonflies of the season.
There is always somthing different to discover. There was verry few
Dragonflies, but i managed to find seven species yet. What realy surprised me
to find so many Female Darners (Ashna )and only one male.In high season the
females usual hiding,so you see mostly all males. This would be a questpon
for Dennis Paulson to answer. The female Canada Darner was quite beaten up
looking as pieces of the wings was missing from being grabed over and over
by males for breeding. The last date was October 12th, so is quite late for
her in the season and proable no males around. The stangest is i collected a
Blue-eyed Darner which is no record but i never saw them that late on this
location more so in eastern Washington. I found one late record a
Eight-spotted Skimmer (male) the old record was 25th September.
All together i found 9 species of Dragonflies:

Northern Bluet(Enallagma cyathigerum)
Western Forktail (Ishnura perparva)
Blue-eyed Darner male (Ashna multicolor)
Cnada Darner female (Ashna canadensis)
Paddle-tailed Darner female (Ashna palmata)
Shadow Darner female (Ashna umbrosa)
Eight-spotted Skimmer male (Libellulforensis)
Yellow-legged Meadowhawk Male+ female Sympetrum vicinum)
Striped Meadowhawk male x female (Sympetrum pallipes)
