Hello,
I recently worked to rehab a 10 week hand reared blue and gold macaw
with a beak deformity. He/she definately has a trill/purr sound when
contented. The bird is improving.
Also, a few years ago I worked with wood ducks that had been reared for
an IMAX film. One of the adult males sat on my shoulder and the best word I
can say is he "thrummed". It is a very low sound that is more vibration.
The vibration travels through you. This bird also fluffed feathers and
raised his head and neck before the thrumming. As he made the sound he
lowered himself into a more compact shape. It was interesting as he
repeated this several times.
