Hey tweets, Yesterday at the Fill was fabulous as always (but this was
unusually fabulous). Highlights include: a juvenile NORTHERN SHRIKE, a
YELLOW-SHAFTED NORTHERN FLICKER, a harrier hawk (pursued all over the Fill
by crows until it flew off, only to return an hour later without being
bothered at all), a RED-TAILED HAWK, numerous YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and
an
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER (the first I've seen at the Fill all year).

Also flying through on migration: one last BARN SWALLOW and at least three
MARSH WRENS.

Also present, numerous SPOTTED TOWHEES (I haven't seen too many of those
at
the Fill over the years), a large flock of STELLER'S JAYS (at least 8), 3
LINCOLN'S SPARROWS (despite the blackberry removal program), and a lone
SAVANNAH SPARROW.

One other observation of note: There were practically no people at the
Fill, although the day was perfect. On the previous night, some 75,000
people had shown up to watch a football game in the stadium. Go figure. -
