I thought I would pass on the following directions to Iona south Jetty since
a few of you have asked how to get there to see these birds. Just a
reminder that it's a 4 km walk to the tip of the south jetty and it's
raining now (0800hrs.) here in Vancouver, expected all day, might be on and
off.

Yes, the Little Stint was seen yesterday at about 3:30 pm and later in the
evening BRIEFLY by about 8-9 people. It was with a bunch of Surfbirds,
Dunlin, Sanderling and Western Sandpipers on the rocks at the tip. It took
a while to find because it was hiding in amongst the rocks along with the
others.

The directions to Iona (and the bird) are as follows:

Access from the US or from Surrey/White Rock/North Delta is by Highway 91.
Take Hwy 91 northbound, across the Alex Fraser Bridge and turn left at the
first light. Travel along this "Richmond Connector" to Shell Road, turn
right and travel north-bound to Bridgeport Road. Turn left towards the
Airport, proceed over the Sea Island swing bridge, and immediately turn
right onto Grauer Road. Do not take the Arthur Laing Bridge, it leads to
Vancouver and the airport. Follow the signs to Iona Regional Beach, the
airport will be on your left hand side.

OR

Simply, you can proceed to the Vancouver International Airport from Hwy 99
go over the Sea Island swing bridge, and immediately turn right onto Grauer
Road which later becomes Ferguson Road. Follow the signs to Iona Regional
Beach, the airport will be on your left hand side, go over the causeway
joining Sea and Iona Island (a left handed banking turn) and at the end of
the causeway it will put you in front of the ponds and the gate where there
is a green kiosk thing (sightings book). Go past this kiosk to the yellow
gate which is the entrance to the south jetty. Like I said the walk is 4 km
to the tip one way.
