The first day of rain since I've been here so time to come into the big
city and make a very short report. Nothing for the past couple days and
probably nothing today if the rain keeps up, but so far 1,350 turkey
vultures have ventured across the Strait of Juan de Fuca on their
southern journey. There should be more.

Nothing terribly out of the ordinary, but then I find the local birds a
never-ending source of interest. Gull-watching can be very "instructive"
they never stop doing new and funny things, it seems. Immature
Heermann's are especially active. I digress . . . this year I have had
three golden eagles and that really is out of the ordinary, I guess. All
three were immatures and all were seen at fairly close proximity (one
flew over my head at about 30'!). No pelicans, cranes, or long strings
of ducks coming in yet.
