Hi Tweets:

Regarding Northern Flickers, I have a male that has night roosted over a
second story window of my house for about 4 years. He's not there during
Spring, but returns to feed with his mate and offspring. He prepares for the
night anywhere from 4:30 pm. to 7 p.m. and gets up about 7-8 a.m. I hear him
rustling around on the window box. If he starts pecking at the siding, I
knock back on the wall and he quits. There is a flicker nest box within a
foot of the window; if I fill it with wood chips he immediately empties
it....regardless of the time of year. Otherwise, he doesn't use it.
Unfortunately, starlings try to take over the box in the Spring so I end up
covering the entry, shutting out the flickers.
