Hi all

It's the time of the year when the rail yard in Port Coquitlam starts to
fill up with CANADA geese. Around hunting season they know where to hang
out. A conservative estimate would be between 1000 and 1500. They have no
fear of 200 ton locomotives that are moving slowly. Sometimes we actually
push them out of the way.

A LESSER CANADA GOOSE was the first of this Fall's less common geese. I
spotted it on Saturday. It was only the second time I have seen these birds
and the first time inland. Is there any area in the PNW where they can be
seen in large numbers?

In the Fraser Valley, this morning, there was not very much excitement.
Mostly Mallards and Common Mergansers in any large numbers. I think the
mergansers are feeding on salmon eggs at the moment. Just about every small
creek and ditch has spawned-out corpses in it.

Although it was a 3 eagle day the BALD EAGLES have not started to show yet
at Harrison Bay. Also seen were 1 NORTHERN HARRIER and several RED-TAILED
HAWKS.

Good Birding
