Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday October 14. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

On September 9 a female KING EIDER was observed on the ocean off Seal
Rock State Park. It has remained. Check for the bird off the pullouts
along Hwy 101 just south of the park enterance. It is hanging out with
SURF SCOTERS.

A PRAIRIE WARBLER was with a PALM WARBLER October 13 at Lone Rock State
Wayside in Curry County. A CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR was near Cape
Blanco the same day. Two BURROWING OWLS are also in the Cape Blanco area.

The LITTLE GULL continues to be seen at Schoolhouse Lake in the Summer
Lake WA.

A PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was at Frenchglen October 7.

Migrant WINTER WRENS, HERMIT THRUSHES, WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWKS, and NORTHERN SHRIKES were reported during the week. A TROPICAL
KINGBIRD was at port Orford October 12. Two EURASIAN WIGEON were on Coos
Bay October 9. A PALM WARBLER was along the Nature Trail at the Marine
Science Center on Yaquina Bay October 9. On October 8 an adult THAYER'S
GULL was in Lincoln City, and on October 11 a SWAMP SPARROW was there.

An AVOCET was on the Nehalem Sewage Ponds October 9. LAPLAND LONGSPURS
continue to be seen at the South Jetty of the Columbia River.

Peak numbers of SANDHILL CRANES are now on Sauvie Island and during the
week the main flight of CACKLING CANADA GEESE arrived on the Island. Most
of the action can be seen from Coon Point. Two AVOCETS were among the
shorebirds at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove. The water level is
now down with a lot of mudflats showing.

On October 11 a SURF SCOTER was on Big Lake in Santiam Pass. The
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS continue to be seen at McKenzie Pass. On October
13 a MARBLED GODWIT was on hatfield Lake near Bend. On October 12 a
probable LEAST FLYCATCHER was seen in the first campground as you enter
the canyon at Lake Billy Chinook. On October 5 a FLAMMULATED OWL was in
the trees at Malheur NWR Headquarters. On October 10 a BOREAL OWL was
called out at the junction of forest roads 64 and 65 north of Tollgate in
northeastern Oregon.
