I saw what I thought for sure was a WHITE PELICAN this morning circling over
the Lake Washington Ship Canal between the locks and the Ballard Bridge,
about 11AM (Sat) It was huge, whitish, with some darker patches on the wing
and a large orangish bill. No trailing feet like the GB Herons. I pointed it
out to a visiting birder from California and he said it was definitely a
pelican, but didn't think it was a Brown Pelican. I don't know enough about
pelicans to be too positive about ID, but damn it had one of the biggest
wingspans I've ever seen. I lost sight of it when I was looking in my field
guide so I don't know where it went, alas.
