Tweeters and inlanders and others:

This represents the beginning of an attempt to regularly transcribe the
Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society's bird alert at 943-OWLS. I'm hooking
up with the compliler, Bob Woodley, to get this done as soon as his message
gets made. If some of the messages are old, sorry. The information will
still be good for any of you keeping databases or just looking for a place
to bird in and around the Tri-Cities.

Well, here goes,

This is the lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for October 10,
1999. For questions regarding LCBAS, call Mike Noga at 946-8966. To skip
the message push the star button on your phone and give your name, phone
number, and sightings after the tone.
On September 25, 1999, there was 10 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 28 LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS, 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, and the year's last VIOLET-GREEN
SWALLOWS on the Yakima Delta, and 3 COMMON TERNS on the upper end of Nelson
Island.
The following day, Andy Stepnewski, discovered a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER on
the Walla Walla Delta. Other shorebirds included BLACK-BELLIED and
SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, both YELLOWLEGS, WESTERN and PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS.
On September 27, 1999, 5 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE appeared on the
Yakima Delta with the usual shorebirds and 3 COMMON TERNS. Also I [Bob
Woodley] found a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET in Groves
Park. Ruth Fischer and Nancy LaFrambois a GREEN HERON along the Bateman
Island Causeway on September 30, 1999, and a little further on, a GOLDEN
-CROWN SPARROW. On the beach on the west side of the Island they observed
a dark morph PARASITIC JAEGER harassing the gulls. Dennis Rockwell and
Nadine Moore relocated the Green Heron on October 2, 1999, and also noted a
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, PEREGRINE FALCON, and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW on the
Yakima Delta. Another WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen Bateman Island.
On October 3, 1999, Ruth Fischer reported a flock of 62 SANDHILL CRANES
over southern Richland. A BLUE JAY was discovered by Tony Greigor on
October 6, 1999, in his yard in the Rancho Riata District. It frequents the
woodlot near the corner of Vernita (Bermuda?) and Clover Streets and is
responsive to tapes. Lastly, on October 9, 1999, Nancy LaFrambois and I
[Bob Woodley] found the first newly arrived DUNLIN among the shorebirds on
the Yakima Delta, and later I observed a flock of about 100 SANDHILL CRANES
over north Richland. To report your own sightings please give your name,
phone number, and sightings after the tone. Thank you.
