Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday October 21. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

The female KING EIDER, first found October 9, at Seal Rock State Park has
remained and is very cooperative. Check for the bird just offshore from
the pullouts along Highway 101 just south of the park enterance. Another
EIDER was observed October 14 flying south off Boiler Bay.

The PRAIRIE WARBLER, first found October 13, at Lone Ranch State Wayside
was seen again October 16. That day a MAGNOLIA WARBLER was at Herris
Beach State Park, just north of Brookings.

Last week-end another BROAD-WQINGED HAWK was recorded at the Bonney Butte
HawkWatch Station on Mt. Hood.

Many migrants are still moving southward including many late lingering
birds.

On October 15 a TROPICAL KINGBIRD was near Cape Blanco. A LARK SPARROW
and a CHIPPING SPARROW were at the mouth of the Rogue River at Gold beach
October 15. On October 18 ten CATTLE EGRETS were at the mouth of the
Rogue. On October 18 a MOCKINGBIRD was on the North Spit of Coos Bay. A
LAPLAND LONGSPUR was there October 12. Three LAPLANDS were at the South
Jetty of Yaquina Bay October 17.

On October 14 two OLDSQUAWS, 4 POMARINE JAEGERS, and a PARASITIC JAEGER
were seen off Boiler Bay. A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW and a SLATE-COLORED
JUNCO were at the D River in Lincoln City October 19. A BLACK-AND-WHITE
WARBLER was along Fenk Road, west of Tillamook October 17. A SWAMP
SPARROW was at Seaside October 16, and a MOCKINGBIRD was in Fort Stevens
State Park the next day.

About 3000 SANDHILL CRANES were on Sauvie Island and at Ridgefield NWR
during the week. On October 17 a flock of 65 CRANES was seen flying over
North Portland, then a bit later over Southwest Portland. On October 18
the first NIGHT-HERON was seen at the North Portland winter roost site
along Marine Drive. A COMMON LOON was on the Willamette River, south of
Ross Island in Portland October 17.

The 119th. Street BURROWING OWL has returned again this year on October
18. Take State Street east out of Salem turning north on 119th. Check the
culverts along the road.

A SURF SCOTER, five REDHEADS, and two CLARK'S GREBES were on the Columbia
River off Hood River last week-end. The BLACK DUCK is still being seen
there among the domestic ducks.

WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS continue to be seen at Craig Lake on McKenzie
Pass. They were also seen October 17 at the south end of Waldo Lake.

Thats it for this week.
