The best views we ever got of Pileateds in our yard was when we dragged an
old rotting stump out from under some blackberry bushes and added it to a
newly planted/restored part of our garden. Two Pileated Woodpeckers
immediately flew down and proceeded to demolish the stump - after the ants
and other insects, I guess. It was great - they were at eye-level just
about 20 feet from our windows. - Teresa Michelsen
