Hello Tweeters,
I this got back from Ocean Shores and i got the EURASIAN DOTTEREL this
evening around 5.30 pm
When i got there at 4.15 pm this getting ready to look, i met a couple
there was looking already for two hours could not find this bird. The woman
had to take a plane back to Portland so there left with out seeing this
rare bird.I went to the same place i had the Killdeer yesterday laying in
the mudholes and where there had the Dotterel this morning. But i found only
4 Killdeere. Searching the Beach beyond the mudflats finding nothing.I
waded to the water comming back to the 4 Killdeer when this birds start
flying of. I followed where in direction there was flying. On to the pond
which is dryed out now and where thw Snowy Plover was breeding. But again
there was 12 Killdeer now where was the Dotterel? There i was standing
thinking about this couple which looked for 2 hours when some of the
Killdeer walked over to the sandy beach where all the driftwood is and
verry good habitat for the Dotterel to be. So i walked over and riht my
first look there I SPOTTED THE EURASIAN DOTTEREL.standing real still among
the Killdeer.I put my scope on the bird before i try to take the photo.I
was standing there enjoying this rare finding when I was approached by a
group of birders. This so happen there was comming all the way from
California, and got the direction from Hal Opperman to see this rare bird.
So all looked to my Scope and had good looks. All together there was 8
Birders. I took 8 photos when the birds start flying away in direction
Damon Point where we usual seeing the Golden Plover. We followed the birds,
and there was Plovers. By this time it was around 6.30 and to dark to tell
them apart. George Wenzelburger who is German and there two friends took me
back to my car.It certainly was nice meeting them and there feel lucky to
get right on to this bird to seeing me with the Scope looking at the
Dotterel. Reading Scotts message where this bird ended up, this is where i
founded this evening, only it took me almost an hour to find. I hope this
bird will stay around so more birders can see it.
