Subject: Ocean Shores Dotterel: 10/22 mid-afternoon report

Mostly good news, folks.

By 1 pm, the fog had lifted enough that a small group of newly arrived
birders could start working westward along the spit that parallels the
north side of Grays Harbor Inlet from the base of Damon Pt. (most
everything else was flooded by the tide). Perhaps half a mile or more out,
they found the Dotterel, probably near where Tom Aversa originally
discovered it on Wednesday.

As the tide started receding, it worked its way eastward, loosely and
occasionally with other shorebirds. By 2:30 it had crossed the Damon Pt.
Road to forage (much to my surprise, and contra most literature) on the
flats just east of the rest rooms. It started working east down the bay
side of Damon Pt. until about 3:10, when it took off and flew northeast,
past the marina, generally towards Bill's Spit and the rapidly exposing
Grays Harbor estuary.

Good luck tomorrow, everyone. Over and out.
