Another name mangling is cleared up. BN

<<Hi Bob,

Just wanted to correct you on my last name. I noticed on your latest
transcription on tweeters, you guessed "... Steve Mlodinow and Carl
Henny[?]..." The latter should be 'Haynie'. As for the Wildlife Management
Area, I don't have a map in front of me, but I believe it's spelled "Wahluke"
if memory serves. It's just north of the Hanford site.

Thanks a lot and keep up the good work.

Carl Haynie>>

Previous transcription completed on Friday, October 1st at 4:45 PM by Hal
Opperman.

Saturday, October 2nd, 4:14 PM. This is Dennis Dudley. This morning near the
Edmonds Ferry Dock there was a FORSTER'S TERN and at least 4 PARASITIC
JAEGERS.

Saturday, October 2nd, 5:33 PM. Hi, this is Doug Watkins, phone number, (206)
842-7131. October 2nd. While birding Oak Bay County Park south of Port
Hadlock in Jefferson County this morning, I spotted a juvenile male RUFF in
the grass along with an adult Whimbrel. The bird was in the inner marsh area
just northwest of the boat launch. Thank you and good birding.

Saturday, October 2nd, 10:45 PM. Paul Pharey [?], (206) 523-5827. I saw a
CHESNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR at Dell [?] Field at 76th at 6:30 PM Thursday
night. I'd like to put that on the board. I'm calling it in this late because
I had to confirm it with a couple of adults.

Sunday, October 3rd, 1:01 PM. This is David Flood, (206) 720-1560. This
morning at Discovery Park was one LINCOLN'S SPARROW at the south meadow in
with GOLDEN-CROWNS and, I'm sure, 3 HEERMANN'S GULLS.

Sunday, October 3rd, 1:33 PM. Hi, this is Stephen Mlodinow. Yesterday Carl
Haynie and I birded from Wanapum Dam State Park to the Wahluke Slope Wildlife
Management Area over to Othello then up to the Potholes Region. We had no
major rarities but some of these things are of some interest. A number of
late staying species including a YELLOW WARBLER and a WILSON'S WARBLER at
Wanapum Dam State Park. A quite late DUSKY FLYCATCHER at the Wahluke Slope
Wildlife Management area near the boat launch. A HOUSE WREN there as well.
Interesting shorebirds included an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, 31 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS and a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER at Othello.
Slightly out of place were a PUGET SOUND WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW at Othello
and a GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at Wahluke Slope Wildlife Management Area.
There was also an impressive number of WHITE PELICANS and DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANTS roosting at Potholes Wildlife Management Area near the heron
rookery were 225 WHITE PELICANS and over 400 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS.
That's it. Good luck and good birding.

Sunday, October 3rd, 7:48 PM. Hi, Scott Downes, 361-7073. I was out on a
field trip led by Bruce LaBar today to Ocean Shores. The highlight was a
juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER at the Ocean Shores Game Range. Later on in
the afternoon, after the field trip was over, I and Sean [?] went down to
Tokeland and were able to relocate the HUDSONIAN GODWIT which has been there
for a few days. And that's about it. Good luck and good birding.

Monday, October 4th, 8:46 AM. Hello, this is Scott Atkinson. Despite the cool
weather at night lately, we've had a few lingering summer residents. At our
place in Lake Stevens yesterday: a WESTERN TANAGER, a WILSON'S WARBLER and,
not so late, a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER. That's all.

Thursday, October 7th, 6:03 PM. This is Vic Nelson at Point No Point, the
northeast tip of the Kitsap Peninsula. Today I had a FORSTER'S TERN, a
CLARK'S GREBE and there are still 10 to 12 PARASITIC JAEGERS in the area at
times. Also there are approximately 2000 BONAPARTE'S GULLS and several
hundred HEERMANN'S and CALIFORNIA GULLS. Thank you.

Friday, October 8th, 8:03 PM. This is Barry Levine (206) 526-8676, reporting
on a trip taken today with Rick Romea to the Iona Sewage Treatment Ponds,
B.C. We could not refind the LITTLE STINT in the time we were there, which
was from 11 o'clock this morning to 5 this afternoon, but it was seen at 9
this morning and it was also seen yesterday morning. The place where it has
been seen was in the second sewage treatment pond on your right after you
enter. Seen today were over 200 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, one BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER, one BAIRD'S and 3 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS. Good luck and good
birding.

Saturday, October 9th, 11:13 AM. Bruce LaBar, (253) 272-1058. A report for
October 8th. Bill Tweit called me this morning October 9th and mentioned that
there was a WHITE-WINGED DOVE seen at Tokeland yesterday at 3:30 PM near the
marina. It was on a small house trailer as you make the bend towards the
marina. The directions were rather vague but if you get in the area of the
marina near a dead end road that goes to a fishing dock, the bird is seen in
that area on top of a trailer house and also on a telephone wire. He wanted
me to pass on that message. Again, WHITE-WINGED DOVE in Tokeland near the
marina. Thank you.

Saturday, October 9th, 8:58 PM. Good Evening. This is Brian Bell, phone
number, (425) 485-8058, reporting on a trip to the Tokeland-Ocean Shores area
today. We tried for the HUDSONIAN GODWIT this morning at Tokeland but the fog
was so thick that we could barely see the 2 or 3 hundred birds that were
there. There didn't seem to be any HUDSONIAN GODWIT up until about 9:15 this
morning.
On the way back to Ocean Shores, we had 7 GREAT EGRETS at Bay City. At
Ocean Shores we had 3 PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS on the pond at Damon Point. We
had an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER on the bay side of the entrance to Damon Point.
We had a PEREGRINE FALCON make a dive attack on a flock of DUNLIN at the bay
side entrance to Damon Point. We had 9 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE on Damon
Point. Nice day. Pretty good representative birds. Thank you.

Sunday, October 10th, 4:06 PM. Hello, this is Scott Atkinson with a report
for the Skagit Flats from this morning. The highlight a GRAY CATBIRD, heard
only, along the Brown's Slough Access also known as the Snow Goose Preserve
just east of Jensen. I had the bird at about 8:30 this morning in a heavy
cattail thicket on a side slough just off Brown's Slough about three quarters
of a mile in from the parking lot on the flats side of the dike. The bird
gave the characteristic mewing call over about 5 minutes intermittently but I
could not bring it in with pishing. Other birds here: an AMERICAN BITTERN, 2
or 3 PEREGRINES, about 135 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, about 9 other shorebird
species and 2 late CINNAMON TEAL at one of the back ponds behind the dike.
That's all.

Monday, October 11th, 1:22 PM. This is Bill Shelmerdine in Olympia, 866-9106.
This morning at Kennedy Inlet in Mason County there was a WILLET and at the
Skokomish Delta along the road to Union there was an EARED GREBE, all three
SCOTERS, good numbers of grebes and loons but nothing else particularly
unusual. Good luck and good birding.

Thursday, October 14th, 6:25 PM. Hi, Tom Aversa, 782-7342. Just reporting I
had 3 SANDHILL CRANES flying over Discovery Park today around noon. Nothing
else that notable there. A few migrants around. A couple of late
ORANGE-CROWNS.
Yesterday, the 13th, I went down to the Grays Harbor area and didn't
really have that much of note. There was probably a dozen PACIFIC
GOLDEN-PLOVERS at the Game Range along with at least 21 RED KNOTS. Three
RUDDY TURNSTONES at Damon Point.
I went over to Tokeland and missed the tides and didn't see the GODWIT.
There was a late YELLOW WARBLER over there and 14 CASPIAN TERNS. That's about
it, I guess. I think I'll get back to the Red Sox game.

Sunday, October 17th, 8:42 AM. This is Jean Belcher (360) 262-0122 from
Chehalis. My husband and I were down at Ocean Shores yesterday and we found a
TROPICAL KINGBIRD down at the Hoquiam Sewage Ponds. It was on the corner of
the sewage pond where the dock is. The description of this bird: it was gray,
had a very long bill, black through and around its eye, it had a white
throat, its belly was bright yellow and the upper part of it was blended in
to a kind of greenish-gray wash across the breast, the tail was dark brown
and there was no white on the tail, however it was hooked on the end of it.
We were surprised to see this bird. I hope someone comes out and spots it.

Sunday, October 17th, 8: 05 PM. Hi, this is Steve Mlodinow. Today Dennis
Duffey and I did the Whidbey to Skagit Loop. Had 110 species. The highlights
were actually at the Jensen Access where we tromped out across the marsh to
the edge of the shore and we had 6 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, a SHARP-TAILED
SANDPIPER and a RED KNOT among many BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, DUNLIN, LEAST
SANDPIPERS, etc.
There were tremendous numbers of birds off of Whidbey but nothing
particularly rare. Some of the highlights included: 410 BLACK TURNSTONES, 33
SURF BIRDS and a RUDDY TURNSTONE at Penn Cove as well as 6000 SURF SCOTERS
there. That's it. Good luck and good birding.

Monday, October 17th, 7:26 PM. Hello, this if Dave Beaudette at (206)
365-2083. This report is for October the 18th and Skagit County. Saw the
juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER today at the Jensen Access of the Skagit
Wildlife Area. Thanks to Steve for the report on that. Also today at the
Jensen Access, were 6 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 15 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 2 NORTHERN
SHRIKES, one immature and one adult, about 200 LEAST SANDPIPERS, one LAPLAND
LONGSPUR in flight, 3 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 2 CASPIAN TERNS in flight, 5
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS and 50 DUNLIN. At the Snow Goose Farm Section to the
Skagit Wildlife Area was a flock of about 60 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE in
flight and about 500 SNOW GEESE out on the bay and in flight. Good Birding.
