Hi Joan, just wanted to let you know, you may not grow
TOO old waiting. At least, I have more flickers than
I know what to do with that come daily (and all day
long) to my seed feeder, as well as the suet. They
also come to my bird bath, the roof and eves, the deck
railing, etc. It's true they are fairly skittish
compared to most of the smaller birds, but I think the
type of seed will have a lot to do with how often they
come back...I use "No Mess" which has shelled
sunflower, millet, corn, and peanuts, which attracts
everything from chickadees, nuthatches, juncos,
towhees, song sparrow, etc., to the flickers, and
although it's a tube feeder with just a small shelf,
I've even had a laugh watching the Band-Tailed Pigeons
try to land on it and feed, their necks craned around
to reach the little holes. Hope you see your flicker
again, I think they are alot of fun. Enjoy!
