I often see Common Mergansers on this Seattle lake in
winter but seldom see Red-breased Mergansers. Any long time Greenlake
birders who can address how often red-breasted mergansers are seen on the
lake?

Linda, I don't know if 15 years counts as "long time Green Lake birder," but
from my records I can tell you Red-breasted Merganser is rare on this lake.
I have only one or two fall/winter records (I don't have the exact dates at
hand right now). Given the species' saltwater habits this is not surprising.

Thanks for posting this to tweeters. If you're interested I can send you a
copy of my complete Green Lake species list.
