Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday October 28. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

The female KING EIDER was seen over the week-end just south of Seal Rock
State Park, south of Newport. Stormy weather may force the bird to move.

The PRAIRIE WARBLER at Lone Ranch State Wayside north of Brookings was
seen again last week-end. It was first noted October 13.

A BLUE JAY was seen October 25 at the Sage Meadow Subdivision north of
Sisters. An influx was recently reported from Idaho, so their numbers may
soon increase in Oregon.

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was at Gold Beach October 26. Another was at the South
Jetty of Yaquina Bay October 24, and several are still at the South Jetty
of the Columbia River.

Single ROCK SANDPIPERS were reported last week-end at Charleston, the
North Jetty of the Siuslaw River, and at the mouth of D River in Lincoln
City.

The October 23 offshore boat trip out of Depoe Bay found a LAYSAN
ALBATROSS, a SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATER, and over 60 CASSIN'S AUKLETS. A
heavy southward movement of PACIFIC LOONS were passing Boiler Bay October
26.

An AMERICAN AVOCET, first noted October 8, at the Nehalem Sewage Ponds
was still there last week-end. The AVOCET, first noted at the Fernhill
Wetlands in Forest Grove October 12 continues to be seen. Up to 70 HOODED
MERGANSERS are now at Fernhill, and large numbers of COMMON MERGANSERS
are in the area. A late BARN SWALLOW was over Hagg Lake, south of Forest
Grove October 24.

A ROSS'S GOOSE was in a goose flock on Sauvie Island October 23. There
are still many SANDHILL CRANES on the Island. A DIPPER was at one of the
ponds in the Japanese Gardens in Portland October 23.

WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS continue to be seen at Waldo Lake and at McKenzie
Pass. A PACIFIC LOON was on Big Lake in the Santiam Pass October 25. The
next day two were on Odell Lake in Willamette Pass.

On October 22 a HERRING GULL was at the Prineville Sewage Ponds. A late
CLIFF SWALLOW was there October 27. Two SCRUB-JAYS were near Ochoco
Reservoir, east of Prineville last week-end.

Malheur NWR was slow last week-end, but three SURF SCOTERS were on
Chickahominy Reservoir October 24.

Thats it for this week.
