This looks strikingly like the illustration of red-necked stint
(c. ruficollis) in late summer breeding plumage in Hayman,
Marchant, & Prater's Shorebirds (p 196/Plate 80).

Hi.

I?m a new subscriber to your list, and I?m looking forward to follow
your birding-debates.

A similar message has been sent to FRONTIERS-ID and to EuroBirdNet.

A small, unidentified wader was photographed by Per Inge V?rnesbranden
at the lake Sn?savatnet, Co. Nord-Tr?ndelag, Central Norway, on 03
Sept. 1999. Photo was taken through a telescope. The bird is suspected
to be one of the small American calidrids. European expertise on these
birds is fairly limited. Assistance is requested to identify the bird.

Please respond to: halvor at inni.no

A discussion on the list would be fine. The other species in the images
are Ringed Plover Charadrius hiaticula and Temminck?s Stint Calidris
temminckii, all juveniles.

All comments and opinions are welcomed.
Thanks, and a nice birding weekend to all.

Regards,

Tor B.
