Dear mj and tweetsters: Yes redtails kite as do many birds, but they also
hover esp. over fields if there is the proper wind. If you would like to see
several different species of raptors and gulls kiting together drive up to
Samish Island some time and turn on Scott Rd and look up if the wind is
blowing out of the south or SE. At one time (several times) we've seen
eagles, redtails, peregrines, Cooper's, sharpies, merlins, kestrels and
TV's. You have to see it to believe it. One time we saw 12 eagles, 5
redtails, 3 peregrines, 2 Cooper's and 1 sharpie all at once and 2 ospreys!!
Another time we saw 3 rough legs with the tails and eagles. When they are
doing this they seldom squabble? Also, they may do this for extended periods
of time. The most we've ever seen up there is 31 raptors and 17 gulls at once!
