We did our second survey of the Spray Park Trail on Thurs. It was mostly
sunny with cool, comfortable temperatures. We started on trail at 0905 from
Mowich Lake stopping every 0.5 mile for 5 minutes. We were back at Mowich
Lake at 2:35pm. We saw/heard the following:
3 Dark-eyed Junco
1 Winter Wren
1 Red-breasted Nuthatch
5 Chestnut-backed Chickadee
3 Gray Jay
4 Golden-crowned Kinglet - 3 in Spray Park area
3 European Starling
1 American Kestrel - perched on top of fir tree in Spray Park
6 American Pipit - in Spray Park feeding in grass patch among large rocks.
2 American Dipper - at Mowich L., one appeared to be swimming in a small pond
by picnic area - the other perched on a log in stream near outlet from
lake.
1 Varied Thrush seen on the road outside of Mt. Rainier NP.

Back home this morning I saw a Black-throated Gray Warbler in the L. Hills
Greenbelt. Only the second sighting in the LHG for me in nine years.
