Thought I'd add my late season info to the board.

Our Barn Swallows were late to nest because we were trying to discourage
them, then gave in. The female laid a 4 egg clutch that didn't hatch. After
a month of setting she started laying again, three eggs this time.

They hatched, grew rapidly and are ready to fledge any minute.
