Yes Ruth,
This happens once or twice a year here mostly associated with a storm
front. In the Spring we may have a couple of hundred warblers for a few
days in a row and then they move on. I think our being on a ridge top
overlooking the Columbia River works somewhat like the pennisula effect
found at Cape May, New Jersey. The birds seem to pile up before crossing
the Columbia River Gorge and cross at certain points when the conditions
improve. Our "yard" (seven acres) is attractrive to birds, we started
planting wildlife attracting plants on it about 25 years ago. We put in
groves of European Mountain Ash Trees, Hawthornes, and Crabapples along
with promoting the native plants. Cascara Trees are a great wildlife tree
this time of year their soft fruit attract just about everything.
