For some reason or other western tanagers did not grace my immediate area
this summer, but this morning, on putting out seeds and watering Lucifer
goose, I heard the loud 2-part chip call of the tanager in a maple. After
work, upon returning home, there was another (or the same) higher up in the
canopy. Didn't see either one, but nice to hear.

I have an indoor cat that never has had the slightest interest in watching
television, but at the beginning of tonight's "Life of Birds" where the
various species were giving their calls rather loudly, his eyes were glued
to the set. As soon as David A. appeared, my cat went to sleep!
