Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday September 9. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 503-233-3976.

A HUDSONIAN GODWIT was observed September 4 on the beach near the
Tahkenitch Lake trail north of Reedsport. A REEVE was on Clatsop Beach
near the Sunset Beach Access September 2. A RUFF was at the mouth of
Siltcoos Creek that day. A BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was at New River
September 8.

A number of AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS were reported along the coast during
the week. After a shift in the wind September 8, from east to southwest,
a fallout of shorebirds occurred in the Coos Bay area. In addition to the
six AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and thousands of more regular species was a
juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER at Bandon, and a STILT SANDPIPER at
Henderson Marsh on the North Spit of Coos Bay.

An AMERICAN REDSTART was at the pond near the jetty in Bandon September
4. The next day a PALM WARBLER was along the Siltcoos Creek trail.

A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and a WILLET were at Siletz Bay September 4. A
WILLET was on the Bayocean Shorebird Flats September 6. The STILT
SANDPIPER is still being seen along Fenk Road, west of Tillamook.

The Portland area summering WHITE PELICAN was seen again August 29 flying
over the east side of Sauvie Island. On September 3 a flock of 32 COMMON
TERNS were over Sturgeon Lake on the Island. The Sturgeon Lake mudflats
were showing September 8 with over 1000 shorebirds off Coon Point. With
them were 3 SANDHILL CRANES and a flock of WHITE-FRONTED GEESE.

On September 1 two RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were at the Fernhill Wetlands in
Forest Grove. On September 3 three were there. Two were on Sauvie Island
September 2, and another was at Steigerwald NWR near Washougal September
4.

A STILT SANDPIPER was at the new Tualatin NWR along Highway 99W near
Sherwood September 3. A RED CROSSBILL nest was found September 6 at Cedar
Canyon, east of Banks. An almost full breeding plumaged PACIFIC
GOLDEN-PLOVER was with other shorebirds on a burned over field at Finley
NWR August 29. It remained for several days.

A WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL was at the summit of McKenzie Pass, west of
Sisters September 6. A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Tumalo Reservoir west
of Bend September 6.

Eighteen species of shorebirds were at the Summer Lake WA September 5.
With them were 5 MARBLED GODWITS, 6 SNOWY PLOVERS, a SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHER, and over 800 AVOCETS. Among the shorebird swarms at Cold
Springs NWR near Hermiston September 6 were 5 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS and
8 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS.

A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was at Fields September 5 as the migration gets
underway in that area.

Thats it for this week.
