A pair of Golden Eagles has nested in the Cedar River Watershed in recent
years. Others nest near Mount Index. My wife and I saw one cruising
nearby, high up along the ridge separating the South Fork Tolt reservoir
and the North Fork Tolt this summer. There are breeding-season records
away from the immediate crest in Lewis, Pierce, King, Snohomish, Skagit,
and Whatcom Counties. See Smith et al. (1997), Breeding Birds of
Washington State, for additional information.
