I'm not sure if this is news on the west side yet -

Birders in eastern and central Idaho are reporting good numbers of
White-winged Crossbills at high elevation locations for the past several
weeks. These include singing males in decent sized flocks which are being
found repeatedly in the same areas. I spent 8/30 - 9/3 in the
Teton/Yellowstone NP area of northwestern Wyoming and found several WWCR at
the West Thumb Geyser basin in YNP. I see from a recent tweeters digest
that some are showing up in the WA/OR Cascades but have not heard of any
reports yet from northern Idaho. Should be interesting to see if this
irruption expands throughout the fall and into winter.

Thanks,
Charles.
