Subject: Possible Costa's x Anna's Hummingbird in Bend

From: Mike Patterson - mpatters at oregonvos.net

We are looking for opinions from those who have experience with hybrid
hummingbirds, particularly crosses between Anna's and Costta's Hummingbirds.
I sent this to HUMMNET earlier this week and am still awaiting resposes.

A suspect hybrid has been visiting Dave Tracy's feeder in Bend,
Deschutes Co. Oregon since May. He has photographed and video taped the
bird and has presented what I think is a fairly good case for a male
COHU x ANHU cross.

I have placed Dave's comments and captures from the video tape on a webpage
at: http://columbia-pacific.interrain.org/ahscience/hummer/tracy02.html

Useful comments, both pro and con, will be incorporated into an article
Dave will hopefully write for OREGON BIRDS and will also be included in
the status section of BIRDS OF OREGON: A GENERAL REFERENCE currently in
production

Thank you

Mike Patterson The common view of science is that it is a sort of machine
Astoria, OR for increasing the race's store of dependable facts.
mpatters at oregonvos.net It is that only in part; in even larger part
it is a machine for upsetting undependable facts.
