JoLynn and I observed a Barn Owl last Sunday evening, September 5, while it
was still barely light -- around 7:30. It flew across the road from a
clearcut, headed toward a 10-to-15-year-old stand of replanted
Douglas-firs. This was 2.9 miles northeast of Copalis Crossing on the road
to Humptulips, in Grays Harbor County (T19N R11W S15).

The Gap bird volume models this species across the southern part of Grays
Harbor County, from the north end of Grays Harbor and on south to the
Columbia, but shows only a couple of breeding bird atlas records, both of
them down in Pacific County. It then models the range along the coast of
Clallam County eastward from about Crescent Bay and on into Jefferson
County. The whole great bulk of the Olympics is blank due to lack of data.

Our sighting is a bit farther north than the modeled range. Question: do
any tweets have records that would help clarify the status of Barn Owl on
the Peninsula?
