Subject: off topic sort of, spraying malathion over NY

The Mayor of New York City in an attempt to control mosquitoes that have
infected some people with St.Louis encephalitis has started a program of
spraying the City from helicopters and fixed wing aircraft with malathion
every 5 days for at least 5 weeks. Isn't there a better approach? What will
happen to insect eating migrant birds?
Jamaica Bay is a big refuge that will be sprayed, and they are hitting
parks and greenways hard.
Any experts with an opinion out there?
I can just image a bunch of malathion resistant roaches as the result, and
maybe many sick/dead birds.
