I did see that news story. As strange and unlucky (for the bird) as it
was, it was also an amazing coincidence. The bird to me at first
appeared like some sort of Falcon, with narrow, bent wings, but your
guess at a Nighthawk is probably closer to the mark. I recall that it
was in the mid-west somewhere, at night, so that would make the
Nighthawk even more likely.
