Sightings for Sunday September 12th

The REEVE located yesterday was not relocated today.

The BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER spent its fourth consecutive day on the Boundary
Bay foreshore close to the dike about 200 meters east of 104th st. It
associates loosly with PECTORAL and BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS. Nearby but about
only 100 meters from 104th st. the HOUSE WREN was present for the second day
in the blackberry thickets at the base of old plums trees
at the dike edge of the farm pasture.

An immature SABINE'S GULL, 1 ANCIENT MURRELET (the first of the fall), and 8
PARASITIC JEAGERS were seen off the tip of the Iona south jetty.

Five RED KNOTS were at the foot of 96th st. on the morning's high tide.

One adult STILT SANDPIPER was at Serpentine Fen.

At Deer Lake Park Burnaby, was the first AMERICAN TREE SPARROW of the fall
migration and 52 PURPLE MARTINS were in a large tree in a field west of the
lake.

The AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, present for several months was still off the
Coal Port Jetty.

The LONG-BILLED CURLEW is still at Blackie Spit.

A CASPIAN TERN and a GREAT HORNED OWL were at Jehrico Park.

At Maplewood Flats 2 NASHVILLE WARBLERS were in a mixed flock of warblers
and vireos.


September 11th

A juvenile REEVE (that is a female RUFF), was on the north shore of Boundary
Bay in front of the mansion west of the foot of 96th st. at about 6:15 this
evening. It and the other shorebirds flew in towards the fields.

The juvenile BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER spent the day about 200 meters east of
the foot of 104th st. It stays close into shore and loosley associates with
PECTORAL and BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS. Two PURPLE MARTINS were heard over head at
9am. One HOUSE WREN skullked in the blackberry thickets below a plums tree
at the edge of the farm pasture about 100 meters east at the foot of 104th
st.

The WANDERING TATTLER, first noted last weekend at the Tswwassen ferry
terminal was relocated today on rocks between berths two and three. A
juvenile RUDDY TURNSTONE was on the reclammation area. The WILLET was at
the base of the Tswwassen jetty.

A HEERMANN'S GULL was at Crescent Beach at 9:30 this morning.

At the Iona Island banding station were a juvenile SWAMP SPARROW and SOOTY
FOX SPARROW, the first of the fall migration.

Two SANDHILL CRANES were with CANADA GEESE along Hwy 10 at one field west of
72nd st.

A GREATER WHITE FRONTED GOOSE was Beach Grove Lagoon.


September 10th

The juvenile BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER spent the day on the north shore of
Boundary Bay favouring weedy foreshore growth and associating with PECTORAL
and BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS. It was seen at 7:00 am west of the foot of 112th
st. and again at 7:00 pm nearer the foot of 104th st.

Twenty-two SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were to be found at Beach Grove Lagoon,
Tswwassen.


September 09th

A juvenile BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER spent the evening high tide with other
shorebirds near the foot of 104th st on the north shore of Boundary Bay.

Twenty two SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were in the Beach Grove Lagoons, Tswwassen.
Fifteen GREATER YELLOWLEGS were at Gilbert Beach, Richmond.

Four PARASITIC JEAGERS were seen off the tip of the Iona south Jetty.

Late second hand reports have been received of the WANDERING TATTLER, first
reported on Sunday Sept. 05th, has been seen this week along the south side
of the Tswwassen ferry jetty, opposite the temporary parking area near the
terminal building


September 08th

The AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN present for several months was again seen off the
Coal Port Jetty in south Delta.

Fourty-six PURPLE MARTINS were noted in Deer Lake Park in Burnaby this
evening. Most were perching in a snag in the old meadow at the west end of
the lake.


September 07th

The ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER present at the Reifel Refuge for the past two
days was not seen today.

One NASHVILLE WARBLER was at the east side of Maplewood Flats.


September 06th

The juvenile ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was seen several times today at Reifel
Refuge in the vicinity of the Rom Trents Memorial blind. Trying to get a
good look was difficult however due to the strong wind and the birds habit
of dissapearing into the trees and staying out of site for long periods. It
was last seen today at about 7 pm.

At Blackie spit were 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR, 1 LONG-BILLED CURLEW, 1 OSPREY, 2
PURPLE MARTIN and 2 MARBLED GODWITS on the north side of the Niklmekel
River mouth.

On Sunday in a late report there was a sighting of a possible COMMON BLACK
HEADED GULL an adult, basic plumage seen in flight at Spanish Banks east of
the anchor.
