Hello Tweeters,
Sunday i combined picking ACE tomatos at the pepperfarm in Wapato,
.. Believe you if i drive almost 400 miles this for Tomatos there had to be
good. The Best in the state of Washington. On the way home i stopped on top
White Pass Yakima Co.at Leech Lake Pacific crest trail Campsite. The first
birds i spotted was male and female Williamson's Sapsuckers. We usual
always seeing the females there, so this was the first of a male. I also
had about 24 Red Crossbills which are mostly sighted there all year. All the
Warblers i spotted where Yellow rumped (Audubon) But i realy din't stop
there for birds. There is a real nice Marsh way in the back, where people
tie there horses up, and if you would not know you can miss this mars all
together. I Became aware of this unique spot earlier in the season, infact
my Son Patrck pointed out to me. There i had in the 100 of Hudsonian
Whiteface (Leucorrhinia hudsonica) colony i ever found. There also was
great numbers of Mountain Emeralds (Somatochlora semicircularis). This was
on 7-31 and this time i saw many Paddle-tailed Darner (Aeshna palmata)the
reason i say many and particular finding out what species there where all
Paddle -tailed.One late record the American Emerald (Cordulia shurtleffi
)and still lots of Mountain Emerald there to.The other species what are
abundant where the Emerald Spreadwings (Lestes dryas) a verry flasy
Damselflie which is only be found in higher elevation. There are more places
on White pass with smal lakes to hike where there could be County records
to be found. It is an adventure to go and find Dragonflies. One can never
tell what could be found. If any of you tweeters can tell me of some secret
places what are hard to find, i reay appreciate you let me know. There are
more discovery waiting of new species for this State.
