For those visiting Vancouver Island, we have a natural migration funnel
point located at the Southern tip of the Island that is within East Sooke
Regional Park. A short hike from the Aylard Farm parking lot will lead you
the the hawkwatch on Beechey Head which overlooks the Strait of Juan de
Fuca. Hawks, Falcons, and large numbers of Turkey Vultures kettle here as
they prepare to make the crossing. Often, you can watch bird venture
forward on their journey across only to "chicken out" and come back to
shore. It's a great and somewhat unknown spot and I recommend a stop here
this fall if you come to the island.
