My wife and I recently spent a few days at our cabin in the Colorado Mts. It
is on the Blue R. about 9 miles north of Silverthorne and is at 8900 ft.
altitude. While at the cabin or on walks nearby I recorded the following.

Blue Grouse
Mourning Dove
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Three-toed Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Western Wood-Pewee
Steller's Jay
Gray Jay
Black-billed Magpie
Common Raven
Mountain Bluebird
American Robin
White-breasted Nuthatch
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Black-capped Chickadee
Mountain Chickadee
Pine Siskin
Cassin's Finch
Red Crossbill

On Sept. 10 we went to the Arapaho NWR near Walden and saw the following:

Lesser Scaup
Bufflehead
Great Blue Heron
Northern Harrier

Barn Swallow
Savannah Sparrow
Vesper Sparrow
Lark Sparrow
Also saw American White Pelican and Common Merganser at Windy Gap Reservoir
near Granby.

On the way back to Wash. State we stopped at TNC's Yampa River Preserve about
19 miles west of Steamboat Springs. An area of good habitat that should be
good in spring or early summer.

Additional birds seen from highways included Golden Eagle in Wyo.,
Ferruginous Hawks and White-faced Ibis in Utah, and Chukar in Idaho at World
Center for Birds of Prey near Boise. A worthwhile place to visit anytime.

After we got back in Wash., we visited the Whitcomb and Crow Butte Units of
the Umatilla NWR where we saw the following additional species:
Western Sandpiper
Double-crested Cormorant
Ring-billed Gull
Western Meadowlark
Forster's Tern
