Sightings for Friday September 17th

A BUFF BREASTED SANDPIPER was relocated after several days abscence in a
plowed field to the north east of 64th st. and 36th st in south Delta. The
bird was with KILLDEER. The flock flushed and flew towards the turf farm on
22nd st.

Three to four STILT SANDPIPERS were on the Boundary Bay foreshore opposite
the mansion west of 96th st. A HEERMENN'S GULL flew past Crescent Beach.

The long staying LONG-BILLED CERLEW is still at Blackie Spit as well as 3
PURPLE MARTINS.

A PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was with BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER at the Niklemekel
River mouth

A late RED-EYED VIREO was in south Surrey. Small numbers of AMERICAN
KESTRELS are being seen.


September 16th

There was a late report of 2 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS at the foot of 96th st.
Two STILT SANDPIPERS were on the Bounbary Bay foreshore opposite the
mansion.

A late RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was in south Surrey. An AMERICAN KESTREL was on
the Kensington overpass above the Lougheed Hwy. in central Burnaby.


September 15th

Two SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS were seen today, one at Iona's southeast pond
with PECTORAL SANDPIPERS in the afternoon and another SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER
along with 2 STILT SANDPIPERS were opposite the mansion west of the foot of
96th st. at mid day.

The fist WHITE-THROATED SPARROW of the fall season was at the Iona banding
station. The first GOLDEN CROWNED SPARROWS of fall were at Iona and mount
Surrey.

Highlights from Point Roberts today include 1 PARASITIC JEAGER an AMERICAN
KESTREL and 4 HORNED LARKS


September 14th

A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was on the south east pond of the Iona sewage
treatment plant with 70 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS.

One PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was on the Boundary Bay foreshore at the foot of
104th st. this afternoon

An OSPREY was over Beaver Lake, Stanley Park.

In the Victoria area at the Rocky Point banding station a WHITE-TAILED KITE
spent some time circling overhead with other raptors.


September 13th

Two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were just at the foot of 104th st. on the
rising tide at 5:30 pm this evening. One SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was also
seen among other shorebirds.

A juvenile AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was seen circling over the Iona ponds just
before noon. It departed towards the south.

At 6:00 pm this evening, 2 adult AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were found just
across the border in Blane Washignton. These two were on the shore along P
portal Drive (spp?) and the foot of Clark st. which is two blocks south of H
st. Still in Blane 3 MARBLED GODWITS were on the fore shore opposite the
gazeebo in Marine Park.


September 12th

The REEVE located yesterday was not relocated today.

The BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER spent its fourth consecutive day on the Boundary
Bay foreshore close to the dike about 200 meters east of 104th st. It
associates loosly with PECTORAL and BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS. Nearby but about
only 100 meters from 104th st. the HOUSE WREN was present for the second day
in the blackberry thickets at the base of old plums trees
at the dike edge of the farm pasture.

An immature SABINE'S GULL, 1 ANCIENT MURRELET (the first of the fall), and 8
PARASITIC JEAGERS were seen off the tip of the Iona south jetty.

Five RED KNOTS were at the foot of 96th st. on the morning's high tide.

One adult STILT SANDPIPER was at Serpentine Fen.

At Deer Lake Park Burnaby, was the first AMERICAN TREE SPARROW of the fall
migration and 52 PURPLE MARTINS were in a large tree in a field west of the
lake.

The AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, present for several months was still off the
Coal Port Jetty.

The LONG-BILLED CURLEW is still at Blackie Spit.

A CASPIAN TERN and a GREAT HORNED OWL were at Jehrico Park.

At Maplewood Flats 2 NASHVILLE WARBLERS were in a mixed flock of warblers
and vireos.


September 11th

A juvenile REEVE (that is a female RUFF), was on the north shore of Boundary
Bay in front of the mansion west of the foot of 96th st. at about 6:15 this
evening. It and the other shorebirds flew in towards the fields.

The juvenile BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER spent the day about 200 meters east of
the foot of 104th st. It stays close into shore and loosley associates with
PECTORAL and BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS. Two PURPLE MARTINS were heard over head at
9am. One HOUSE WREN skullked in the blackberry thickets below a plums tree
at the edge of the farm pasture about 100 meters east at the foot of 104th
st.

The WANDERING TATTLER, first noted last weekend at the Tswwassen ferry
terminal was relocated today on rocks between berths two and three. A
juvenile RUDDY TURNSTONE was on the reclammation area. The WILLET was at
the base of the Tswwassen jetty.

A HEERMANN'S GULL was at Crescent Beach at 9:30 this morning.

At the Iona Island banding station were a juvenile SWAMP SPARROW and SOOTY
FOX SPARROW, the first of the fall migration.

Two SANDHILL CRANES were with CANADA GEESE along Hwy 10 at one field west of
72nd st.

A GREATER WHITE FRONTED GOOSE was Beach Grove Lagoon.


September 10th

The juvenile BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER spent the day on the north shore of
Boundary Bay favouring weedy foreshore growth and associating with PECTORAL
and BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS. It was seen at 7:00 am west of the foot of 112th
st. and again at 7:00 pm nearer the foot of 104th st.
